Gwen--that's beautiful! Some of the other art classes did a huge pottery unit this year in which they used the raku firing process. That's the one that involves heat, explosions, and a funny burning smell, right? I've never done. It looks fun though, and it creates amazing colors!

Dear God. I was just skimming though the pictures on this thread. I struggle to draw stick figures......

Wow, I feel bad. I've been gone because of end of the school year scramble, and then I was enjoying my vacation, and then I went on a trip to obx...Natalie Zhen wrote:Where is Monica?
Anyway, I'm not so great at painting and I don't really have pictures of my paintings so here's a drawing I did.

The hostings screwed up -_-; Here's a link instead, sorry. Feel free to look at the other stuff in my gallery, idc. Descriptions are on the bottum.

Fisticuffs at Dawn
Sorry about the horrid picture/picture quality and the date stamp all up in that corner. I had to get it done quickly since it was put in a book for the retiring chairwoman of the Center I'm in.
I like colors. And trees.
Feel free to look at the other junk in this here link.

Thanks! You really ought to give raku a try. Some people may not like it because they're not really 'in control' of the way the glazes react. That's the part that make it fun though, IMO.

That tree is so cool! I really wish I could draw something like that. I like the contrast between the leaves and then the rest of the drawing.

I draw things like that a lot. I like absurd, surreal things that take crazy amounts of patience to draw and ink in.
I also do sculptural jewelry design, but alas, have no pictures to share.

Melody! Of course I remember you. Since I've really only had one hard-core art teacher in high school, Ms. Henning wrote one of my recs. I took a look at your stuff; we adjudicated at the same place, but all your art was locked in the car Your line quality is astounding!
Here's a post-adjudication piece of mine. It very strong feminist themes in it, though I have problems with objectification outside of females and sexual innuendo as well. Anyone read The Awakening? The wallpaper references the closing scene.

HAHAHA yes Addie locked the art in the car. I couldn't remember if you'd seen any of my art, and I thought the answer was no and now I remember why xDwe adjudicated at the same place, but all your art was locked in the car
And thanks for the compliment on my line quality. I am obsessive when it comes to my lines.
Time Kills
Once again, sorry for the crap picture quality. Bit of the end got cut off there.
The themes of this piece would take me much to long to explain unless I was face to face with you and could use hand gestures, sound effects, and possibly diagrams.
Re: Portfolio Show and Tell
Melody--what medium do you use? The color is very smooth...copics?

Re: Portfolio Show and Tell
Acrylic, actually. But not the acrylic everyone thinks of when I say it. It's actually the common craft acrylic used for painting ceramics and the like. The smoothness depends on the brand and the hue, though. I have like a whole box of the stuff, I'll bring it with me and you can see what I'm talking about :]
Oh, and the black and white is pen and ink.
I'm super obsessive about having perfectly clean lines for these landscapes, so I do the pen and ink first and then go into the background with the acrylic, paint the large areas, and go around the drawing with a detail or other smallish brush.
