Running Group!
So there has been a running group plan floating around the "Instruments" topic, the chat room, and other random places. It seems to be getting a lot of support, so I wanted to start a separate topic for people who are interested. Useful things to place here may be personal paces, goals, special intense workout ideas for serious runners, and general tips for people who just want to start.
I will throw out there, for new or relatively inexperienced runners, to bring a good pair of running shoes if you plan on increasing your mileage substantially. You should try to get fitted at a store that specializes in running, but a general sports store works too. These shoes cost a lot, but they last for up to 500 miles, and they will keep you form getting injured. The better your shoe fits you (think support), the happier the running experience will be!
Happy running! I'm so excited!

!
The running group idea is wonderful and made by day when the idea was thrown out a few days ago!
I plan to run slow on some days and hard on others; I'd really like to do two a days but I'm not sure if we'll have time too, but maybe every once and a while.
If anyone wants a running plan, whether you're a beginner, at an intermediate level, or an experienced runner, I have them so just ask and I'll message you!
And Natalie is right on the shoes! Get a good pair!
And wonderful topic for the forum Natalie!

Haha, I'll put good running shoes on my Governor's School shopping list. I'm def. going to be a beginner, but I think my body will adjust quickly, and I wouldn't mind two-a-days. I mean at first, it might kill me, but I think it's better to push myself rather than conform.

Re: Running Group!
well i go on runs ocassionally but i'm in no way hardcore...
but it's good to know that a few others are interested... itd be cool to have a running buddy at least.
it depends on the shedule for the school. i prefer running late afternoons but im not sure if thatll work with the program... and im not quite sure if im willing to go in the mornings, lol.
we'll just have to seeeee

Re: Running Group!
Zack--double runs sound great for weekends when we have more free time in the afternoon. I was personally eyeing the weekend personal time right before dinner because I hate running on a full stomach. (Oh, looks like Wade agrees. Mornings are always tough for me too)

Re: Running Group!
I'd love to be part of a running group, but I think I'll attend gov school for a couple of days first to judge how much time I'll have free.

Re: Running Group!
I totally need to get in on this running group. I need to be in shape for Cross, especially since I'm leaving for a month..... I thinbk that before breakfast will be the best time because I just assume it will be very hot during the day, so even if we ran at like 5 or 6, it wouldn't be late enough. It's either like 9 or 10 or early in the morning if you want to beat the heat in my experience.

Re: Running Group!
Well, since we aren't allowed to leave our dorms until 6:30, we would all have to be ready to rush out the door at that time and start running. Then we need to shower and get to breakfast by 8:00.
Now THATS an adrenaline rush!

Re: Running Group!
Yeah, 30 minutes at once is good for me. I just call that 3 miles. If I want more mileage, maybe we can be healthy and go for an evening run. Better yet--and evening walk sounds nice.
Think about it: 630 to 700 run, shower, get dressed, done. Actually, call this nasty, but usually I shower at night and then just wash my face, change, and reapply deoderant after the run. Mostly because I hate using the school showers. But please tell me if I smell bad : )

Re: Running Group!
I think Natalie's plan might work. It seems to use time efficiently, but who knows, I guess we'll figure it all out when we're actually there. These next few weeks are going to seem eternal. =[

Re: Running Group!
I'm ecstatic that people are in on this!
The schedule seems wonderful! I'll probably be out the door at 6:30, and depending on the day be finished by 7-7:30. I definetly don't want to be late for breakfast because I eat and eat and eat! And an evening run/walk sounds great.
Once again if anyone would like a running plan if you don't have one, just ask!

Re: Running Group!
i'm probably the only one thinking this but... i might not want to run if theres like... nowhere TO run. if you know what i mean... i'm really hoping the campus is nice because i personally run through the large park land behind my house, which is nice and varied with woods and hills and a creek and stuff. and if CNU is boring or ugly, i might not be motivated... lol

Re: Running Group!
I'm not much of a runner myself, but I would be happy to take up that back in case anyone gets hurt. I've actually been trying to run lately so that I can start being healthy and whatnot, so I think this is pretty fly idea. I may look like an idiot with you cross-country-ers, but I'll give it all I got.
