Why thank you! Vacations are an integral part of Group #3's running agenda.

or would we just be doing 30-minute exercise runs?

For middle distance I think that you can do fartleks or tempo runs. I'm pretty sure that we have access to the track when no one else is there, if you want to do intervals or digressions, but there are plenty of workouts to do that don't require a track. I'd pow wow with the hardcore cross country boys and maybe coordinate some workouts. I'm probably a group 2.5 ish, so summer workout plans are not for me.

track workouts that early in the season... I don't know how many takers you'll get on that. I'll probably be doing 5x1 mile a couple times but that's it.

I guess track workouts don't have to be interval-y. My "veteran runner training calendar" (yes, we are issued these crazy things) instructs me to do tempo runs in July. Personally, I like doing a flat 2 mile tempo on the track better than just going for goodness knows how far in 20 minutes. Not that I will be following the calendar--I need a better base than most veterans; but for those who have the base already built up, track workouts can be a nice check on pace/VDOT improvements.

Hmmm, I don't think I'll be doing any hard core track workouts this early in the season, but I'll definetly be doing tempo runs, high threshold run, and fartlecks, so we can totally still do some fast hard days.

Okay, so I do crew and swimming. Both are sports that are very low on running. As such, I suck at running. Flat out suck. But, as running seems to be the only way I'm going to get in any physical exercise at all, then I shall join in. But, I'm really really really slow. D:
I think we should also do stuff like abs, squat jumps, lunges, etc. Other exercises and stretches besides running, to build up muscle and whatnot.

I really like this idea. Is there any way we can go from a running group to a general exercise group? The running would count as cardio but I would like to do other conditioning exercises to stay in shape.

Yeah, core is a must. Planks are the bane of my existence, but I will do them because the pain is good for me. I also have some nifty ab drills to share (6 minute drill/Abby T Abs and 5 minute drill) and a supplement that will make your gluts buuuuurn.

Kiera--Maybe you could pull together a group 4 that does shorter runs and longer core sessions.

I too have my share of ab drills (though they don't have cool names like yours) that I have to do to stay in shape for dance. I had planned on just doing them on my free time or whatever but if other people are interested it's definitely much nicer to have other people to work out with - takes your mind off the pain.

8 minute abs is a good one. What I do at home is weighted decline sit-ups.

Is 8 minute abs 6 minute abs divided by 12 and then multiplied by 16? I think so. We should also do some shin strengthening stuff for shin splints. Anyone know good knee/IT band exercises?

This ab stuff is all well and good, but I am hoping to do most of my actual running in the morning. I know I won't be able to get myself up to do all this extra crap early. So I don't know. I think we're looking at many groups at different times doing different things now. Not that that is a bad thing.

I think that most of us runners are still meeting outside the dorms at 6:30. At least, I hope so. My team calls extra ab work "supplements" because it's just that--a supplement to the main running workout.

I think that anyone who is interested should come out on Monday morning, and then we can regroup face to face.

I have a great ab pyramid set that I know of, and Plios are a great way to warm up/work on balance/build up muscle and flexibility.
I'd gladly set up a group 4 for shorter runs and more core strengthening exercises. I know a bunch we could do.

So 6:30 on Monday morning?
I know there was a certain time that we weren't allowed out of our dorms. Did anyone check to see if 6:30 fit the rulebook as far as that goes?
Just something to keep in mind. Haha.
